School Buildings Remain Closed: Learning Plans Continue for Students

Governor Edwards will be announcing the closure of all public school buildings for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year because of the coronavirus. This announcement creates a challenging time for our students and our communities. Our goal in Bienville Parish is for learning and instruction to continue, and we recognize many teachers and families are concerned about how we will ensure that students will master those state standards that they missed from March through May.

Our plan is to continue distance learning through online or paper packet resources for students throughout the summer. Our teachers will continue to stay connected to their students during this period, and teachers will provide students with feedback on lessons that they are completing. Please encourage your child to do their very best on these assignments. Check with your school’s administrator for pick up times and locations as well as any other information you may need. Also, visit our parish website www.bpsb.us for additional at home resources.

Student meals are still being provided by the cafeteria staffs at the Arcadia School Complex and Gibsland Coleman High School. Please contact these schools for distribution times, sites, and dates.

With the closure of our schools a May graduation ceremony for our seniors is no longer possible, the district is looking at tentative dates in June and July, with the understanding that these dates may change depending on the Governors Orders. We must ensure that the health and safety of our students and citizens are no longer at risk and adhere to any government directives remaining in place regarding group gatherings.

We realize there may be a list of questions that remain unanswered. We will continue to work through these questions and work with you to find the best solutions for everyone. We will be providing more information concerning end of the school year activities in the next few weeks. We look forward to your continued feedback, your partnership, and your support. Together we can minimize the long-term impact of this unprecedented school closure.

Please continue to do your part by practicing social distancing, washing hands often, cleaning frequently touched objects and surfaces and staying at home. Together we can get through these difficult times.
